Hard Rock Locations in South Africa

South Africa has developed into one of the most diverse Hard Rock markets on the African continent. The story began in 1996 with the first Hard Rock Cafe Cape Town, which closed in 2001, before the brand returned to the city in 2017 with a new Cape Town location that remains open today. Over time additional cafes opened in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Sun City, with Pretoria later closing in 2024 while the others continue to operate. In recent years the portfolio expanded further with airport and themed retail concepts including Johannesburg JNB Airport Rock Shop, Soweto Rock Shop and the Table Mountain Rock Shop in Cape Town, introduced in 2025. Today multiple cafes and rock shops remain open across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Sun City, giving South Africa one of the strongest and most varied Hard Rock footprints in Africa.
